Fifty years ago now, in 1972, Kibby Creek Travel Park opened and welcomed its first summer’s worth of campers. It was the start of a summertime tradition for many families. Built in an old fruit orchard, the land was the homestead and farm of the Stephen Kibbey family in the 1800s. Bordered by pines, our namesake, Kibby Creek, runs through the north end of the property, filling up a fishing pond (or two, depending on the rainfall), before crossing the road and eventually meandering is way to Bass Lake and Lake Michigan. 

Forty years ago, in the summer of 1982, Roger Anderson began working at Kibby Creek for Don and Dorothy Carr. What began as just a summer job to help pay his way through college quickly became more than a job for Roger — it became a dream. Don and Dorothy recognized Roger’s hard work and love for the place and in 1990 his dream became a reality. With Don and Dorothy by their side for the first few years, Roger and his wife, Kelly, made Kibby Creek their family business. They raised their three kids here and expanded the park for the first time in 2002, bringing Don’s dream to fruition shortly after his passing. 

Kibby Creek is still owned and operated by three generations of the Anderson family: Roger and Kelly, their grown kids, two spouses, and seven grandkids. As we celebrate 50 years, we are also celebrating our second expansion and the addition of 130 new premium full hookup sites on the 22 acres west of the existing sites. The accompanying amenities are still in the works and we can’t wait to share them with you! Our new dream may be a little bigger but we will always strive to provide the classic American camping experience you remember with the modern amenities you love. We want to continue to provide an environment for all ages to enjoy and make memories with family and friends for generations to come.
